Flex Best Practice - How to rename a phone in FlexPBX
This is the best practice method of renaming a phone when a staff member changes position or jobs.
Log onto the tenancy in FlexPBX Portal
First remove the device from the user :
- Click 'Users' (see picture 1)
- Locate the user you wish to change (see picture 1)
- Click on the device allocated to the user (see picture 1)
- Click 'Unassign' to remove the device. (see picture 2)
- Click 'Save Changes' ((see picture 2)
Remove the extension from the user:
- Click on the extension number
- Select Unassign
- Click add an extension and add a random number ie 9999
- Click Save Changes
Add a new user :
- Click 'Users', then click 'Add User' (Picture 3)
As a bare minimum, fill in 'FirstName', 'LastName', 'EmailusedforLogin' and 'Password'
- Enter the extension number that was unassigned in step 2 above.
- Summit recommends NOT selecting 'Send credentials to this user'
- Click 'CreateUser' (Picture 4)
The user will now show up as a row in 'Users' (Picture 5)
Add a device to the new user :
- Click 'Users', then click in the 'Devices' cell of the user you wish to add a device to (Picture 6)
- Click 'Add from Spare Devices' (Picture 7)
- Select the device(s) you wish to add to the user, and click 'Select' (Picture 8)
- The Device will now show up in the list, click 'Save Changes' to finish (Picture 9)
A Device Icon will now show up in the User's row (Picture 10)
