How to rename a phone in FlexPBX


This is the best practice method of renaming a phone when a staff member changes position or jobs.


Log onto the tenancy in FlexPBX Portal
  1. First remove the device from the user :
    • Click 'Users' (see picture 1)
    • Locate the user you wish to change (see picture 1)
    • Click on the device allocated to the user (see picture 1)
    • Click 'Unassign' to remove the device. (see picture 2)
    • Click 'Save Changes' ((see picture 2)
  2. Remove the extension from the user:
    1. Click on the extension number
    2. Select Unassign
    3. Click add an extension and add a random number ie 9999
    4. Click Save Changes
  3. Add a new user : 
    1. Click 'Users', then click 'Add User' (Picture 3)
    2. As a bare minimum, fill in 'FirstName', 'LastName', 'EmailusedforLogin' and 'Password
      1. Enter the extension number that was unassigned in step 2 above.
      2. Summit recommends NOT selecting 'Send credentials to this user'
    3. Click 'CreateUser' (Picture 4)
    4. The user will now show up as a row in 'Users' (Picture 5)

  4. Add a device to the new user :
    1. Click 'Users', then click in the 'Devices' cell of the user you wish to add a device to (Picture 6)
    2. Click 'Add from Spare Devices' (Picture 7)
    3. Select the device(s) you wish to add to the user, and click 'Select' (Picture 8)
    4. The Device will now show up in the list, click 'Save Changes' to finish (Picture 9)
    5. A Device Icon will now show up in the User's row (Picture 10)
