2-Factor Authentication (2FA) or Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security measure to help protect your online accounts by requiring 2 or more pieces of unique information to access your account. Summit requires 2FA to be used for all 3CX user accounts, this is for the safety of our customers and our service.
3CX will prompt a new user to scan a QR code with an authenticator app on the user's smartphone when they first attempt to log in.
The user will need to download an authenticator application. Popular authenticator applications are Google Authenticator, LastPass Authenticator, and Microsoft Authenticator. They all perform the same function in the 2FA process and are available on all major smartphone platforms.
The user will use this authenticator app to scan the QR code given before to link this users account with their authenticator app. The authenticator will then start generating a random code to be used when logging in.
In the event of a user leaving and needing to be removed from your 3CX system, once an account is deactivated or deleted the link between that 3CX account and the 2FA app is broken. The app can no longer generate valid codes for the deactivated account because the shared secret is no longer valid.
While you can still use the app for other active accounts, it won't work for the deactivated one, and each account requires its own separate authenticating code.
