STEP 1 - Locate the wall socket
Find the telephone wall socket in your premises. If this is a new installation, the NBN tech may have advised you where this socket is located.
For multi-tenant premises, the NBN may have been delivered to a Main Distribution Frame (MDF), and no further. The NBN tech should have labeled where in the MDF your service has been installed to.
It is the customers responsibility and expense to have the NBN patched from this point on the MDF to an appropriate wall socket at the desired location within the premises. Please consult with a licensed cabler to complete this installation if necessary.
An MDF may looks something like this (but can vary significantly based on the site requirements)
STEP 2 - Connect your VDSL modem
Disconnect all devices such as
telephones, modems, fax machines or anything else
that is plugged into a telephone wall socket. It is very
important that you have no other devices plugged into
sockets in your premises.
Take your modem/router’s power supply cable and use
it to connect your modem/router’s power port to an
electrical outlet. Switch the power point on. Plug the telephone cable that comes with your
VDSL modem into the DSL port on the back of your
VDSL modem. Plug the other end of the telephone
cable into your wall socket. The setup should look like
the below image once completed.
You will
now need to wait for the DSL light on your modem to
turn solid - this may take up to 15 minutes. DO NOT
UNPLUG THE DEVICE DURING THIS TIME.
If the DSL light on your VDSL modem does not turn
solid after 15 minutes and you have more than one
socket in your premises, and you are unsure of the correct socket where NBN is being delivered, please plug your VDSL modem
into other sockets in your premises, and turn the power
on and off once plugged in. Leave your VDSL modem
plugged into each socket for up to 15 minutes until the
DSL light on the modem turns solid.
If the DSL light on your VDSL modem does not
turn solid green after 15 minutes and you have tried
to connect this on ALL phone wall sockets in your premises, please contact our support team for further
troubleshooting.
STEP 3 - Configuring your devices
Depending on how you wish to use your NBN connection, you will need to configure your modem appropriately. You may simply need to enter your username and password into your router to connect to the NBN. Or you may need to connect a router or firewall to the modem and configure that device to log in with the username and password. Where necessary, consult your IT team or relevant device manual for set up instructions.
Summit Internet will advise the relevant details required to log your service into NBN and start data flow.
